Winds Leave 25,000 Without Electricity in Colorado
Oct 17th 2012, 14:59

About 25,000 electricity customers are without power in the Denver area and in northern Colorado after a powerful wind storm.

Xcel Energy says the blackouts affected about 50,000 customers starting at 10 p.m. Tuesday, and half of them still had no electricity Wednesday morning.

The company says it expects to have everyone online Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service is predicting sustained winds of 25 to 40 mph with gusts of up to 60 mph possible across the eastern half of Colorado Wednesday.

The wind and low humidity prompted the weather service to issue a red flag warning for eastern and southeastern Colorado, meaning the danger of fire is very high to extreme.

Fort Collins has reported a 40 mph gust.
