Judge Gives OK to Raze Flawed Vegas Hotel Tower

A Nevada state judge is giving the go-ahead to raze a flawed hotel tower that never opened when MGM Resorts International and Dubai World opened the rest of the $8.5 billion CityCenter development on the Las Vegas Strip.

However, Clark County District Court Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez's ruling Thursday doesn't mean the 26-story Harmon Hotel will be imploded anytime soon.

Attorney George Ogilvie, representing project general contractor Tutor Perini Corp., says he'll appeal to the state Supreme Court.

Perini argues that demolishing the tower will forever prevent a jury expected to hear a multi-million dollar Perini-MGM construction defect case next summer from viewing work that was done.

The Harmon was to have been 49 stories, but was cut short when inspectors found flaws in the steel reinforcements built into lower floors.
