Niagara Falls, NY, Wants Daredevil Wallenda to Pay
Jul 20th 2012, 17:30

The New York city of Niagara Falls says daredevil Nik Wallenda still owes about $25,000 for public safety costs from last month's tightrope walk across the falls, and it's having a tough time collecting.

Mayor Paul Dyster (DY'-stur) says the state legislation that granted permission for the walk required Wallenda to cover security and law enforcement costs. Dyster says the city spent about $43,000, mostly for police and fire overtime. He says it has received $17,500 so far, but Wallenda's team wants the city to forget the rest.

Wallenda representatives didn't immediately respond to messages Friday.

Wallenda walked a tightrope across Niagara Falls from the U.S. to Canada on June 15. Niagara Falls, Ontario, Mayor Jim Diodati (dee-oh-DAT'-ee) tells The Buffalo News ( http://bit.ly/NGyakj ) he's not expecting full reimbursement for security.
