Texas to Use Single Execution Drug for 1st Time
Jul 18th 2012, 17:23

A 33-year-old man convicted in the carjacking and murder of a suburban Dallas stockbroker may be the first person in Texas to be executed using a lethal dose of a single drug.

Yokamon Hearn has appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court hoping to stay his execution scheduled for Wednesday evening in Huntsville.

Hearn was convicted in the March 1998 slaying of Frank Meziere. Authorities say he abducted Meziere in the stockbroker's own convertible Mustang, drove him to an industrial area of Dallas and shot him 10 times in the head.

If his appeal is rejected, Hearn will be the first person in Texas to be executed using only the sedative pentobarbital â€" a change from a three-drug execution procedure used since 1982.

Hearn's appeals don't address the drug change.
