New York's attorney general says the nation's two largest breast cancer charities have adopted his guidelines for fuller disclosure by those selling pink products and services in their names.
Eric Schneiderman (SHNEYE'-dur-muhn) says the Susan G. Komen For The Cure and Breast Cancer Research Foundation are adopting the guidelines.
The guidelines include having companies disclose the specific amount that will be donated from each purchase. Companies using pink ribbons and similar symbols on products also will state if a purchase triggers a donation or merely calls attention to the cause.
The attorney general's Charities Bureau has been reviewing commercial "cause marketing" campaigns. It reviewed the campaigns of nearly 150 companies, finding substantial donations but some confusing information about amounts.
Messages left for the charities were not immediately returned Thursday.
