Ginger White, who says she was involved in a 13 or 14 year "on and off" affair with Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, today told me she does not think he is fit to be president.
"I honestly do not think that he is, in my opinion, would make a good president as far as I'm concerned," White told me in an exclusive interview on "GMA."
Cain has denied the affair and publicly criticized White, calling her a "troubled Atlanta business woman" who is using "national media outlets to promulgate a fabricated, unsubstantiated story," he wrote in an email to supporters.
The GOP candidate told his staff yesterday that White's allegations were "cause for reassessment," but last night his campaign manager told ABC News that there is "no way he's dropping out."
When I asked White if she thought Cain should end his bid for the presidency, she said "that's something that he has to look himself in the mirror and ask himself."
"You know last night I slept very well telling the truth. I'm not sure what's going on in his head right now but it's unfortunate that any of this is going on," she said.
White, 46, described their relationship as a "very casual affair." She said she was single when it began and Cain took her on "several trips," including to a Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield fight in Las Vegas.
Over the past two and a half years Cain "consistently" gave White money, she said, but it was not "sex for cash." She admitted to financial difficulties, including being sued for libel by a former business partner, but denied that she was ever evicted.
Cain doesn't dispute that he gave her financial assistance, writing to supporters that he helped her "just as I have helped many friends and acquaintances throughout the years. I thought Ms. White was a friend in need of a supportive hand to better her life. Ms. White has made it apparent that she was abusing the friendship."
This morning White showed ABC News phone records that she says show text messages back-and-forth between her and Cain on several dates as recently as October and November.
White said she communicated with him "up until last week" but he never asked her to keep the affair quiet.
"The funny thing about Herman Cain is never in a million years did he probably think that I would speak out on this," she said. "And honestly speaking I never wanted to."
She told me the spotlight is "difficult" and she has been "absolutely humiliated [and] embarrassed."
"I can't image waking up one morning and deciding to come out with this if this was not true," White said. "This has been a very difficult situation for myself and for my family. And it's nothing that I'm proud of."
