Even as some barrier islands remain closed to their residents, New Jersey officials are turning their attention to rebuilding beaches ravaged by hybrid storm Sandy.

Gov, Chris Christie says Tuesday was a day of sorrow but Wednesday would be the start of a recovery.

President Barack Obama was also planning to visit New Jersey on Wednesday to see the damage to the state where the storm made landfall on Monday.

Still, state government offices and most schools are remaining closed on Wednesday and power outages are still a major problem across the state.

Christie says that when beaches are rebuilt, they are likely to look different because boardwalks and amusement rides were washed away.
