They say money can't buy happiness, but perhaps it can afford relaxing pastoral surroundings within proximity of metropolitan-sized paychecks.
At least, that's what a recent Yahoo! Real Estate article, "Meet America's Richest Counties" suggests.
Near the top of the list is the rapidly growing but lush, rural Hunterdon County, N.J., which shares a border with Pennsylvania, and is one train ride from New York City.
On the list, Hunterdon County ranked below several pristine suburbs of a different major metropolitan region, but the article notes other nearby counties which claim higher-than-average incomes.
Hunterdon County, which includes the beautiful Clinton Township (shown here) has become a magnet for the wealthy with jobs in New York City and Philadelphia, according to the article, and has a median income of $102,500.

What's not to love? Maybe the long ride: It's a 75-minute NJ Transit train to New York's Penn Station, and an 84-minute drive to Philadelphia's city center. And a recent report shows it has the highest state property taxes. But the with 127,000 acres of farmland, twelve lakes, and modest population growth, the trade-off is worth it for many.
(In order to determine America's richest counties, Forbes.com looked at estimates of median annual household income from 2005 to 2009 in each U.S. county as provided by the Census's American Community Survey, in inflation-adjusted U.S. dollars.)
