Politically Foul
Politics is not a game exactly, but there are rules, and when you break them, you are running Politically Foul!
Joe Biden made a stop in the Everglades with his defensive line: the Secret Service. While touring with Commissioner of Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Ron Bergeron, Biden joked about his special teams, "You see this man right here, my secret service guy? He's -- he played in pro football, also was on that national championship team that Clemson had. He said, if I go, he'll shoot you, Ronnie. So -- I'm only kidding, that's not true. He didn't say he'd shoot Ronnie; he said he'd shoot the alligator if I went."
Foul. Unnecessary roughness. In the midst of the Secret Service scandal, perhaps it's best to take a bye week
It was a week of endorsement turnovers for Mitt Romney. Newt Gingrich accused Romney of encroaching…on celebration, "I think it's a very substantial mistake for Governor Romney to be pretending these primaries aren't occurring and for him to be having quote a general election speech tonight in New Hampshire. He's the frontrunner but he's not the nominee." Gingrich pulled a cut back when withdrawing his nomination just a few days later. "I do think it's pretty clear that Governor Romney is ultimately going to be the nominee and we're gonna do everything we can make sure that he is in fact effective. And we as a team will be effective in winning this fall."
Gingrich wasn't the only politician changing their theme song this week. Rudy Giuliani switched jerseys for Team Romney as well. His camp released a statement of resounding support, "I'm proud to support Mitt Romney and encourage all those who worry about our country's future to do the same."
Flag! Illegal shift! It was just a few short months ago that Giuliani was in the opposing team's cheering section, "I have never seen a guy - and I've run in a lot of elections, supported a lot of people, opposed them - never seen a guy change his positions on so many things, so fast, on a dime. Everything."
Team loyalty is hard to come by in the league of politics.
Those are the politically plays we flagged this week. Tell us your best and worst moments and we'll survey the field again next week.
