A man who once pleaded guilty to attempted murder is in custody after an Oregon mental health worker was stabbed to death while visiting him in St. Helens.
Police Chief Steve Salle says that Brent Redd, a mental health services client, called police at about 8 a.m. Sunday to report that Columbia Community Mental Health worker Jennifer Warren had been stabbed.
Warren died and Redd was hospitalized with injuries, but details of his wounds weren't immediately released.
The 30-year-old man has been under the jurisdiction of the Oregon Psychiatric Security Review Board after he pleaded guilty except for insanity in 2007 for attempted murder of a family member.
The Oregonian reported that Redd was sentenced to the Oregon State Hospital for 20 years, but was given conditional release in September 2010.
Officials say the stabbing reportedly occurred as Warren was conducting a scheduled visit with Redd. The paper says no charges had been filed against Redd as of 8 p.m.
