Hurricane Miriam has formed in the Pacific Ocean, but it poses no threat to land.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Miriam was about 430 miles (692 kilometers) south of the southern tip of Baja California. The storm has winds of 90 mph (145 kph) and is moving northwest at about 12 mph (19 kph).

In the open Atlantic, Tropical Storm Nadine is meandering far from land with winds of about 60 mph (97 kph).
