Court to Consider Cost of New Mich. Stabbing Trial
Oct 5th 2012, 11:42

A man charged with a series of stabbings in a Michigan city is returning to court for the first time since he was sentenced to life in prison for murder.

Elias Abuelazam (EE'-lee-us ah-BOOL'-ah-zahm) soon is scheduled to face a second murder trial. But it's possible that Genesee County authorities may put everything on hold, citing the cost of additional trials and the fact that Abuelazam already is locked away forever unless his first conviction is overturned.

A court hearing is set for Friday in Flint.

Abuelazam was convicted of first-degree murder last spring. He has two more murder cases and six attempted murder cases still pending in Genesee County, all from the summer 2010 stabbing spree. Abuelazam also is charged with attempted murder in Toledo, Ohio.
