Prosecutor Must Weigh Trial in Ohio Stabbing

An Ohio prosecutor must decide whether to pursue a case against a man suspected in stabbing attacks in the Midwest.

A Michigan prosecutor announced Friday that the suspect will face no additional trials in the state unless his first murder conviction is overturned. That's intended as a money-saving move.

Elias Abuelazam (EE'-lee-us ah-BOOL'-ah-zahm) is charged with attempted murder in Toledo.

Lucas County Prosecutor Julia Bates said Friday she will review the case and decide whether to seek his extradition to Ohio. He is accused of stabbing a man who was standing outside a church.

Abuelazam already is serving a life sentence without parole, and the prosecutor in Flint, Mich., says additional trials would be costly. Two more murder cases and six attempted murder cases are pending in Michigan.
