Four people died and others reportedly were taken to a hospital when a train crashed into a parade float featuring veterans and their families in Midland, Texas.

The float was one of two carrying wounded veterans and their families to a "Show of Support Banquet," according to ABC News affiliate KMID-TV. The floats were crossing train tracks at Garfield Avenue and Industrial Avenue around 4:35 p.m. local time, when a train began to approach, police told KMID. One float got across the Union Pacific tracks safely, but the second was hit by the train.
Two people were killed instantly and two more died at Midland Memorial Hospital, KMID reported, adding that 17 more people were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The hospital confirmed the four deaths to ABC News.
