Investigators hope to wrap up their work at the scene of the deadly Indianapolis house explosion by the end of the week, although they aren't putting a timeline on determining what caused the blast.

Fire Capt. Rita Burris said Thursday that repairs or demolition can't begin until the investigation is complete.

City code enforcement official Adam Collins says his agency hopes to have 11 homes that require some sort of bracing shored up by the beginning of next week so their residents can return to assess damage.

Collins says engineers or insurance adjusters have assessed most other homes that were damaged by the blast late Saturday.

But officials say almost a dozen homes near the explosion's core remain off-limits. Little is left of those buildings.
