NYC Man to Be Sentenced in Terror Plot
Nov 16th 2012, 07:32

Prosecutors are seeking life behind bars for a New York City man convicted earlier this year of plotting to attack the subways as a suicide bomber in 2009.

Adis Medunjanin (ah-DEES' may-DOON'-yah-neen) is to be sentenced on Friday afternoon in federal court in Brooklyn.

Prosecutors had accused Medunjanin and two high school classmates of receiving al-Qaida training in Pakistan. They intended to strap on backpack bombs for a strike near the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks before abandoning the plot at the 11th hour.

Admitted mastermind Najibullah Zazi (nah-jee-BOO'-lah ZAH'-zee) and another man both pleaded guilty and testified against the 28-year-old Medunjanin at trial.

Medunjanin's defense told jurors he only intended to fight with the Taliban, not become an al-Qaida operative.
