1. Gun Background Checks Jump in Colorado

Background checks for people hoping to purchase guns in Colorado have jumped more than 41 percent since the shooting at a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises." Firearms instructors say they're also seeing an increase in interest in the training required for a concealed-carry permit.

2. New Orleans Police Department Begins Overhaul

An agreement to reform the New Orleans Police Department is the most wide-ranging in the Justice Department's history, according to Attorney General Eric Holder. Holder and Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced the signing of a federal consent decree designed to fix up the police force that has been overrun by decades of mismanagement and corruption.

3. Cop, Suspect Fall in Niagara Gorge

A Niagara Regional Police officer and a man he was chasing were injured after they fell into the Niagara Gorge in Niagara Falls. Two officers jumped over the wall in an attempt to catch a man on Tuesday evening.

4. 80K Chicago Residents Without Power

About 80,0000 Chicago area residents remain without power Tuesday night after strong thunderstorms rolled through the area this morning. Commonwealth Edison said it expects to have power restored "to the majority of affected customers by Thursday evening, with heavily damaged isolated areas lingering into Friday evening."

5. Trebek Back at 'Jeopardy' After Heart Attack

"Jeopardy" host Alex Trebek returned to work on Tuesday to tape the first episode of the show's new season. Trebek is reportedly in good health after suffering a mild heart attack last month.
