Jul 27th 2012, 23:56

A political aide who served in influential roles with New York Republican heavyweights such as Mayor John Lindsay and Gov. Nelson Rockefeller and managed part of President Richard Nixon's reelection campaign has died. Fioravante (fee-or-uh-VAHN'-tay) Perrotta was 80.

His partner, Michael Killorin, said Friday he died July 20 of complications from oral cancer.

Perrotta was known as Fred. He served as a special assistant to Rockefeller in Albany. He held several high-profile positions for Lindsay in New York City Hall.

He ran unsuccessfully as the Republican candidate for city controller in 1969 and later managed Nixon's reelection campaign in New York City.

Perrotta also served on the boards of four insurance companies. After retirement he moved to Naples, Fla., where he lived until his death.
