FAA Official: Radar Center Will Be in New York
Jul 23rd 2012, 17:24

An FAA official says a new air traffic control center that will serve the busy New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia metro areas will be built somewhere in New York.

Acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta toured MacArthur Airport on Monday with local officials lobbying to have the state-of-the-art radar facility built on Long Island.

Huerta said it will be built in New York state. But he declined to be more specific.

The Federal Aviation Administration plans to consolidate 49 aging Northeast air traffic facilities into four. It will cost about $2.3 billion.
