Museum Commemorating Boston Tea Party to Reopen

The Boston Tea Party Museum is set to reopen after a lengthy and difficult renovation.

The floating museum on Boston's Fort Point Channel features a reenactment of the protest that helped set in motion the events that led to the Revolutionary War.

The facility reopens to the public on Tuesday.

The museum's executive director, Shawn Ford, tells The Boston Globe ( http://b.globe.com/LjFiRj ) that the project was slowed for years by permitting delays and financing issues. It was finally boosted by a $28 million state loan covered by hotel taxes and other fees targeting tourists.

The museum features replicas of the Eleanor and the Beaver, two ships boarded in 1773 by colonists upset about British taxation. Museum visitors will have the chance to heave a chest of tea over the edge themselves.
