Ga. Soldiers Due in Court on Murder, Gang Charges
Aug 30th 2012, 11:12

Three Georgia-based Army soldiers accused of killing two people to protect an anti-government militia are due in court.

Pvt. Isaac Aguigui, Sgt. Anthony Peden and Pvt. Christopher Salmon of Fort Stewart are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on charges of malice murder, felony murder and criminal gang activity in the Dec. 4 slayings of former soldier Michael Roark and his girlfriend, 17-year-old Tiffany York.

Prosecutors in Georgia's Long County say the soldiers were part of a militia operating within the U.S. Army that was stockpiling weapons and wanted to overthrow the federal government.

A fourth soldier, Pfc. Michael Burnett, pleaded guilty to reduced charges Tuesday and agreed to testify against the others. He says Roark and his girlfriend were killed to keep them from exposing the militia.
