1. Isaac Churning Towards Gulf Coast
Tropical Storm Isaac is churning toward the northern Gulf coast. The National Hurricane Center predicts Isaac will turn into a Category 2 hurricane somewhere over the Gulf of Mexico, possibly hitting late tomorrow between New Orleans and the Florida panhandle. That would be one day before the seven year-anniversary of Hurricane Katrina striking in 2005.
2. Gas Prices Spike 6.8 Cents
The average price for a gallon of regular gas spiked 6.8 cents in the US over the past two weeks due to a rise in crude oil prices, partially because of tensions in Iran. According to the Lundberg Survey, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline was $3.759 as of Aug. 24, versus $3.69 on Aug. 12.
3. Poll: Voters Feel Romney Would Favor Wealthy
A new ABC News/Washington Post poll shows that registered voters believe Mitt Romney would do more to favor the wealthy than the middle class by 58-32 percent, the opposite of views on Obama's priority.
4. Small Quakes Shake California
Dozens of small to moderate earthquakes shook the southeastern part of California on Sunday, causing minor damage outside of San Diego. The largest quake was a magnitude 5.5.
5. 'Expendables 2' Tops Box Office
Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables 2" held on to the number one spot at the box office this weekend for the second straight week. The blockbuster movie raked in $13.5 million nationally followed by "The Bourne Legacy."
