Man's NY Trial Date Moved in Saudi Ambassador Plot
Aug 16th 2012, 19:36

A Texas man charged with plotting to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States will have to wait until next year for his New York trial.

An October trial date was moved on Thursday to Jan. 7 for Manssor Arbabsiar (mahn-SUHR' ahr-BAHB'-see-ahr).

Federal Judge John Keenan moved the date to give lawyers more time to prepare for trial.

Arbabsiar was arrested Sept. 29 at Kennedy Airport.

Authorities say he was involved in a $1.5 million plot to kill ambassador Adel Al-Jubeir (AD'-duhl ahl-joo-BEHR') in a bombing at his favorite restaurant.

Arbabsiar is a U.S. citizen who has lived in Texas for decades and holds an Iranian passport.

He's being held without bail. He faces charges that carry a potential life sentence. His lawyers say he has brain abnormalities and the charges should be dropped.
