Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, August 27, 2012.
Tropical Storm Isaac will continue to effect Florida as it moves into the eastern Gulf of Mexico on Monday. Winds are expected to pick up as the system progresses, increasing to about 70 mph by the afternoon. Bands of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and squalls are expected to extend several hundred miles northward and eastward from the system¼'s center, impacting much of western Florida and the central and eastern Gulf Coasts. Total rainfall accumulations of up to 10 inches are possible in the Florida Peninsula, while total rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches with maximum amounts of 15 inches are possible along the eastern and central Gulf Coasts. In addition to this activity, a few tornadoes will become possible along the eastern and central Gulf Coasts, from southeastern Louisiana through southern Mississippi, the Florida Panhandle, and the western Florida Peninsula. These coastal areas are also at risk of flooding by rain as well as by rising waters due to storm surge and tide. Dangerous surf and rip current conditions will continue to effect the Florida Peninsula, the Florida Keys, and the central and northwestern Bahamas. Elsewhere in the East, wet, unsettled weather will continue in the Mid-Atlantic and the southeastern corner of the nation with areas of rain and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure and a cold front with waves of low pressure will push eastward through the Midwest. Showers and thunderstorms are anticipated near the cold front as it extends from the Great Lakes through the Southern Plains.
Out West, a cold front associated with a low pressure system sitting off the Pacific Northwest coast will move inland across the Pacific Northwest to the Northern Rockies. Showers associated with this disturbance will be restricted to the Pacific Northwest due to limited moisture. This system will also bring increasing winds and areas of dry thunderstorms to the Northwest. Expect heightened fire weather conditions from parts of northeastern California and central Oregon through Montana. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday have ranged from a morning low of 32 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont. to a high of 104 degrees at Needles, Calif.
