Former Presidential Adviser McCracken Dies at 96
Aug 4th 2012, 21:04

Paul W. McCracken, a former economic adviser to several U.S. presidents, has died at age 96.

Retired University of Michigan business professor and longtime friend Herbert Hildebrandt says he was told Friday of McCracken's death by Linda Langer, one of McCracken's daughters.

Hildebrandt says McCracken was a member of President Dwight Eisenhower's Council of Economic Advisers and was asked in 1968 by President Richard Nixon to chair the council. He resigned in 1971.

He says McCracken had "great respect" for Nixon, Eisenhower and "Democratic presidents that asked him to sit on committees and give advice."

McCracken also taught at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, retiring in 1986.

He is survived by two daughters, Langer and Paula McCracken.
