An explosion and fire have destroyed a home in New York's Finger Lakes region, injuring a man and his grandson.

Fire Chief John Tighe tells the Corning Leader (http://bit.ly/OxfMxn) that a man in his 80s and one in his 40s were apparently the only people in the house near downtown Corning when it blew up just after 11 a.m. Friday.

The blast reduced the house to a pile of debris, heavily damaged a neighboring home and blew out windows for blocks. The men were pulled from the wreckage, burned and bleeding but able to walk. Tighe says they were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Corning is 76 miles south of Rochester.
