House Destroyed by Explosion, Fire in Upstate NY Aug 3rd 2012, 23:37 An explosion and fire have destroyed a home in New York's Finger Lakes region, injuring a man and his grandson. An explosion and fire have destroyed the home, injuring two men. Steuben County Emergency Services Acting Director James Marshall says it isn't clear if the fire or explosion happened first at the house near Corning's downtown. It was reported just after 11 a.m. (AP Photo/The Leader, Derrick Ek) ELMIRA STAR-GAZETTE OUT Close The blast reduced the house to a pile of debris, heavily damaged a neighboring home and blew out windows for blocks. The men were pulled from the wreckage, burned and bleeding but able to walk. Tighe says they were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The cause of the explosion is under investigation. Corning is 76 miles south of Rochester.
