Prosecutor: Iraqi Involved With Al-Qaida in Iraq
Aug 21st 2012, 17:08

An Iraqi man who faces terrorism charges in the U.S. worked directly with insurgent groups in his home country to attack and kill American soldiers and later tried to funnel money and weapons back to them, according to a federal prosecutor.

U.S. Justice Department attorney Larry Schneider on Tuesday told U.S. District Judge Thomas B. Russell that 24-year-old Mohanad Shareef Hammadi was involved in the videotaped attack on an unnamed captain after the American-led invasion of Iraq. Schneider's comments came during a pre-trial hearing in U.S. District Court in Louisville.

Hammadi is charged with trying to send weapons and cash to al-Qaida in Iraq after he came to the United States and conspiring to kill U.S. nationals in Iraq. His trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 28 in Bowling Green.
